Skyros Castle

The topographic and architectural mapping of the castle of Skyros was accomplished due to works of the protection of the monument, as well as the fixation of the rocky slopes of the Castle and the church of St. Georgios.

For the complete and accurate mapping of the monument, modern means and methods were used, such as photogrammetry using a DJI Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), Leica Laser Scanner, GNSS receivers and Leica total station.

A trigonometric and polygonometric network was established, more than 13.000 ground and aerial photos were captured and the entire upper part of the castle was scanned, achieving accuracy of ≤ 5mm.

The spatial resolution of the final photogrammetric diagrams ranged at 2mm.

Finally, views, sections, floor plans of 1:50 scale and topographic diagrams of 1:200 and 1:500 scale were drawn.
